today we talked about religions, specifically the five predominant ones in the world. so far we got to Christianity being the biggest with 2.2 billion followers, followed by Islam with 1.5 billion, and then Hindu with 1.1 billion. Even though the amount of Christians doubles the amount of Hindus, that's still an enormous amount of adherents. we had a long discussion on protestants and more specifically Lutherans. being a Lutheran myself and getting confirmed at a Lutheran church, I know a lot about the break from the catholic church. martin luther decided he didn't agree with many of the teachings of the catholic church. he posted a list of things wrong with it on the church door. he was arrested and told to take back everything he said, and he basically responded by saying "if you can find it in the bible, i'll take it back." and then the people were like "hey we can make a religion out of this" and so they did.
