A Message to Garcia 9/8/18

I didn’t take much out of this essay. It’s just about a guy who did what he was told, and I don’t see how anyone could take something from it. Rowan was given an order from the president to deliver a message to Garcia, hence the title of the essay. Rowan did it and didn’t ask any questions. No one knew where Garcia was, though. If anything, what should be taken out of this essay is sometimes asking questions is important, for instance, when you’re told to do something, but you know absolutely nothing about it, you should ask general questions to figure out what the goal is. How do you expect me to find him? How dangerous is this? Why me? Those are all valid questions. Just because we ask questions doesn’t mean we’re disobedient. In fact, the way I see it, if you don’t ask questions and you just do whatever anyone tells you, you’re not really a person anymore. You’re not thinking for yourself. You’re a puppet. Maybe something should be taken out of this essay, and that’s to ask a couple questions every now and then.

  1. I like your perspective on this essay. I hope you decide to ask questions in class if you feel like I need to be challenged or questioned. Keep me on my toes, Leigh!
