12/5/18

today in class we had to read a packet and underline important things. at the beginning of class we talked about exams and that next Friday we're going to have two essays due. we get to pick which of four we want to do. I cant remember exactly what happened in between because there was a lot of talking and chaos. at the beginning beginning, very beginning I remember you said the interviewer guy at the debate didn't like that sean said let us be sad in it. I didn't make it past the first page in the packet because I kept getting distracted.

late debate blog

I'm pretty sure its too late to do this for a grade but I'm being forced to. during Friday's debate, I didn't really learn much. no one called on me and I had a lot to say. I wouldn't put myself as one side or the other, but I wouldn't be neutral either because my opinions are so strong. I agree and disagree with certain aspects of both the democratic and republican side of the asylum argument. I don't know what to do with the immigration problem. on one hand, the immigration process takes so long and some people are scared for their life. on the other hand, there's only so much we can do as a nation. but I do believe very strongly that this is being handled wrong from both sides. for instance, the teenager who was shot 10 times for throwing a rock? yeah okay, so he shouldn't have thrown a rock. big deal. but the officer shot him. that's unnessacary. but then you think, he shot him 10 times, that's beyond excessive and cruel and I think the cop should be in prison. and the big group of people who stormed the border to try to get through, that's absolutely ridiculous. people could've died by getting trampled. the officers used tear gas and I think that was a good way of handling it. they didn't fatally injure them, they just made them uncomfortable so theyd leave. I cant say my life is great, but I sure as hell cant say that I know how hard it is to go through what those people do. they want to come into a new country for a better, safer life, but it takes them years. I cant even begin to understand their struggles. but you also have to think about all the people in power over America. they want whats best for the country. theyre trying their best to think of solutions to satisfy everyone, but its very hard. with who did well in the discussion, I think colin did well because we did a good job at not being biased and rude and instead he was open to others's thoughts and opinions.

12/4/18 -- migration article

  • migration: a permenant move from one place to another
  • migration is a form of mobility
  • mobility is a very broad and general term
  • emigration is moving FROM a location
  • immigration is moving TO a location
  • net migration is the difference between the number of immigrants and emigrants
  • largest migration flows are: latin America to north America, south asia to Europe south asia to southwest asia

ive been listening to weezer all class and I'm living my best life. I have very similar notes on this topic (this being the article, not weezer) so i'll put those in too because its the same information.

some key ideas of this unit is
  1. where are immigrants distributed?
  2. where do people migrate within a country?
  3. why do people migrate?
  4. why do migrants face obstacles?
I can somewhat answer these questions already, but not much in depth.

today we had a quiz on information i learned 5 minutes prior but i’m 99% sure i won. i’m good at quickly memorizing information but after an hour i forget it. the guy’s name is hans risling i think and he was a global something or another. i had it a minute ago. i’m sorry. but thanksgiving is in two days and i’m really excited because i’m making pumpkin pie. it’s okay i guess. the tests just came back and i got 100%. i wasn’t even here. i’m very happy. it’s been a good day. i didn’t have to go to school tomorrow and that was fun.

a demographic transition model shows how the birth and death rate go from high to low in a certain area. demographic transition has four stages. stage one, pre-transition, has a high birth rate and a “high fluctuating death rate”. i don’t really know what that means. stage two, early transition, the death rate starts to go down. birth rates stay about the same, so the population increases. stage three, late transition, the population declines as birth rates slowly drop. stage four is post transition, which is after the birth and death rates go down.
i just figured out i can add pictures so that’s pretty cool. this is a demographic transition model. the bottom shows the four stages, and what the change in population is over each stage.

here’s one that shows 5 stages. the fifth stage is when country’s population goes down because the death rate is higher than the birth rate.

im basically sonic the hedgehog at this point so

we had an online test today. my computer is broke so i had to go to ms. roseland and ask to borrow one. she wasnt there so i had to zoom over to ms. behler's room. i stopped to pet the dog. he's a good boy. he wore a bat costume on halloween. she told me i should go check in IT. mr. vitucci wasnt there and the door was locked. i had to sonic the hedgehog really quick again to make it to the office but then i ran into my grandmother. his name is colin. the coins in my pocket just went e v e r y w h e r e. so im literally sonic the hedgehog. i went to the office and the nice lady with the peppermints at the front desk called mr vitucci but he didnt come, so i waited for a few minutes and then we went to look for him. we saw him in the hallway and he was teaching a class so he had to leave the class early and i felt bad. he got a computer for me and i sonic the hedgehogged back to class. i had to zoom quickly through the test because i had less time. i still won though. thank you

11/1/18

Today in class we found Waldo. I think i was supposed to be paying attention but you cant pay attention when waldo is lost. i found him in every slide. we talked about the different shapes of population pyramids(?). the christmas tree shape is for developing countries with lots of kids, the box shape is for developed countries with an even amount of each, and the cup shape is for developed countries with more adults than youths. my halloween was bad. i was grounded so i sat alone in my room with my attack on titan nerd costume on because my mom might take away my trick or treating but she'll have to pry that costume off my dead body. i just took the time to process the fact that i completely unironically and legitimately used the word youths i am sorry

10/30/18

today in class we went on the CIA world factbook and we practiced for an upcoming test. i sat next to caitlin and looked off her computer. we would be asked a question about a certain country and have to find the country and answer the question within a short period of time. aiden got kicked out of class. the factbook game was interesting because we learned that america makes less money than switzerland.

catch up pt 3

-RNI is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate
-net immigration rate is the difference between a number of persons entering and leaving a country during a certain year
-entering a country is immigration and leaving a country is emigration
Why do people migrate?
-push and pull forces
-a push force is a reason to leave a country
-for example: civil war, environmental degradation, religious persecution
-a pull force is a reason to enter a country
-for example: better health care, religious and political freedom, better economic opportunities
-TFR: total fertility rate (average number of children born per woman)
-if the TFR is higher than 2.1, the population will increase
-if the TFR is lower than 2.1, the population will decrease
-for the population to remain the same, the TFR has to be 2.1

catch up pt 2

- there's over 7.5 billion people on the planet right now
-increases by over 73 million each year
-90% of the population growth takes place in Africa, south and east Asia, and Latin America
-in 1804, the population was 1 billion
-in 1927, the population was 2 billion
-in 1960, the population was 3 billion
-in 1974, the population was 4 billion
-in 1987, the population was 5 billion
-in 1999, the population was 6 billion
-in 2011, the population was 7 billion
-in about 2023, the population will be around 8 billion
-life expectancy is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year
-crude death rate is the number of any type of death per 1000 of the population
-crude birth rate is the number of births per 1000 of the population

catch up pt 1

due to my mother's A+ parenting, i havent been able to do any blogs recently. here's my attempt pt 1 to make them up. we started a new unit on population. some key issues are:
1. where is the world's population distributed?
2. why is global population increasing?
3. why does population growth vary among regions?
4. why do some regions face health threats?

global population is increasing because as countries are becoming more and more developed. people start having more kids.

10/22/18

I don't remember much from today besides a brief talk on infant mortality rates. We watched a website that showed the population growth and that was neat. I broke my nail off in class and superglued it back on but no one noticed so that's fun. Apparently Monaco has the highest life expectancy and Chad has the lowest. America stands at #42. I guess that's kind of decent, considering there are 195 countries in the world. At least we aren't at #188. My school computer is broken, I spilled makeup remover on it and it permanently died. I took it to IT and they ordered a new one but didn't tell my mom so she doesn't know still. I'm using my broken home computer. I used to carry it by the screen so it broke off on one side. It has multiple viruses and hundreds of dead pixels. The inside pieces are falling out. It's very broken. It took me an hour to write this post.

Scientific Method-- the government uses speech recognition technology to stalk us.

Problem: Is Cortana, Alexa, Siri, and other products like so government tools?

Research:

·       These devices are always on and listening for when they are called

·       They hear everything

·       Needs to be connected to the internet to work

Hypothesis: The government is storing all the information they get from us talking near these devices and invading our privacy.

Experiment:

Cortana-

·       Hey Cortana, what was the last thing I asked you? “Sorry, I can’t help with that, but I’m always learning.”

·       Hey Cortana, who is your superior? “I’m sorry, I can’t answer that.”

Cortana is playing dumb. It’s Siri’s turn.

              Siri-

·       Siri, is the government listening to this? “I don’t know what that means.”

·       Do you have anything to do with the CIA? “I don’t have an answer for that.”

Pretty sketchy.

Data: Cortana plays dumb and Siri is nervously sweating.

Conclusion: My hypothesis was correct. The government is listening in on all our conversations and may use the gathered information.

10/2/18

Today we went over our test from the beginning of the school year. I guess I did okay on it, the bell did a sound so I think that means I win. When the bell did a noise I said something in Greek that I probably shouldn't have said out of relief. It was Greek so no one could understand it anyway. I forgot the name of the SUV but I learned it today, I think it's Dasani? There's a mountain with the name. Really the SUV was named after the mountain but close enough. The meeting place for Greek people and democracy stuff is the agora, I remember that now too.

9/28/18

We had a catch up day yesterday. I mainly listened to music all class, I was aggressively bopping to Sum 41 I don't care how weird it looked. I get distracted really easily so I didn't get anything done really. I have very bad attention problems. I was also looking at some Louboutin stiletto heels that are really pretty and really expensive. The heels are about 6 inches. I went to the Perry Hall homecoming game last night, we won. I got to see all of my friends because everyone from there went to this game. We didn't actually go in the stadium because we didn't have tickets so we just hung out in the tennis court. Nothing really happened in class because I wasn't paying any attention which is probably not good but anyway, now I don't know what to write about.

it always comes back to aliens im sorry

We spent a third day talking about maps. How can a group of people spend so much time literally talking about maps? We had to write out where places were on the map and that was difficult. The Mercator map didn't show the Arctic ocean but am I really surprised though I mean it's just a lying piece of paper anyway why should I trust it. I can't stress enough how awful that map is whose idea was it to lie to the entire nation like hello???? Back to my theory on aliens that the government is hiding, it's improved. Evolved. Aliens made the Peters Projection map to distract people from the bigger picture. If we get so angry over a map, what's going to happen when we find out about aliens? So they made a map as good as possible so we'd be satisfied, and settled down for the time being. But now we know. We know.

i am slammed with homework im not gonna lie i couldve done a lot better.

Today we talked about maps. All class. I don't got any idea how a cartography lesson took 55 minutes but I'm not mad at it. Maps can never be perfect because maps aren't spherical like the Earth. We learned that the time zone creator people almost made the whole world have the same time. Instead they separated it into 24 time zones because of 24 hours in the day. It would be so weird if we all had the same time because when we go to bed at around 22:00, other people would just be waking up. I don't understand people who don't use military time. When you count, it don't go "10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3..." No, it goes "10, 11, 12, 13, 14..." My guinea pig is screaming I had to rush this. I still have a lot of homework. It's very late, 22:00. I'm sad. I'm small, I have no money, you can imagine the stress I'm under. In conclusion I am crying thank you.

9/24/18

I don't really know what kind of points they were making or what we're supposed to be writing down, so this is a shot in the dark. We should be using the Peters Projection map because the regular standard map made third world countries smaller and European countries bigger to show greater importance. This created a subconscious bias towards these countries. I agree with this point because usually it's in our heads that greater size means greater importance. This might be true to an extent, but I don't believe that the sizes of countries on the map is the root of racism. Another thing they say is that nothing is where we think it is. I don't think that point is valid enough because we still get the general idea of where everything is, it's not like there's too much of a difference. Those were the only points really brought up, they just talked about the same things, just using different words and phrases.

9/20/18

Christopher Columbus was a bad guy, there were millions of people in America and he was credited for discovering it. That's pretty messed up. I don't know what else to write for this blog, I mean all we did was yell about maps again. We talked about the flat Earth conspiracy but I missed most of that because I have attention issues. I don't understand how anyone can believe that theory. If the world is flat, then how are oceans? Oceans can't be. Because they go under, so the world can't be flat.

I'm sorry this turned into a rant about the government

Apparently we've been lied to for 133 years. Our map is wrong. The Peters Projection map is what the world actually looks like, everything is so different in size. Europe is too big and Africa isn't big enough, but it is, just not on our normal map which is wrong. This is proof that the government is trying to teach us incorrect information to brainwash us. And no, I'm not saying this as a joke. I am dead serious. 133 years they've known, and we still believe that the incorrect map is right because the government never switched it. But they know. If we continue to have such blind faith in our government, we will be taken advantage of more than we already are. I think all schools should teach the Peters Projection map. This whole situation makes me wonder what else the government hasn't told us about, the obvious answer is aliens. It is arrogant to believe we are the only life form in thousands of galaxies. The Canadian prime minister has even admitted to working alongside America with at least four types of aliens. In fact, Canada is sized differently on each map, it's smaller in reality. On an unrelated note, XXXTENTACION and Lil Peep's song was released today. Everyone hates it but it's actually really good.

9/17/18

We had a test today but other than that class was pretty uneventful and I'm pretty sure I can't write 150 words on it. I went to the school store to get a sweatshirt because I was cold, but it was closed. I went back later during class and I didn't have enough money. That's pretty much it.

I got chorus practice for mass, I won't be in class today.

Socrates 9/13/18

Today we learned that all of Socrates' organs shut down because when they killed him, they used hemlock tea which is extremely poisonous. He was sentenced to death for corrupting the youth and talking against the gods. The vote was really close, so some of the men in the jury asked the jail worker if they could let him go, and he said yes. When they went to tell Socrates he could escape, he refused because he believed in Athens' justice system. When we did the vote in class, more than 1/3 of the people voted to kill Socrates.

Ancient Greece 9/11/18

Today in class we learned about Socrates, and he’s a pretty cool guy. He was a soldier in the Peloponnesian war in ancient Greece, and then he later became a philosopher. We learned about the Socratic method, which is, in short, repeatedly asking someone questions to figure out how they truly feel on a certain topic. Socrates said it helped get people thinking more. And there was a talk about democracy and how the sun was considered a flaming chariot. Greece was kind of important. Democracy was a big deal in Athens, it was created in 508 BCE. The citizens would meet up and discuss a topic, and every person would be able to stand up and share their opinion on it and say what they think should be done. Many countries like America, obviously, and Egypt, Russia, and China, took the idea of democracy and decided to use it in their own government.

A Message to Garcia 9/8/18

I didn’t take much out of this essay. It’s just about a guy who did what he was told, and I don’t see how anyone could take something from it. Rowan was given an order from the president to deliver a message to Garcia, hence the title of the essay. Rowan did it and didn’t ask any questions. No one knew where Garcia was, though. If anything, what should be taken out of this essay is sometimes asking questions is important, for instance, when you’re told to do something, but you know absolutely nothing about it, you should ask general questions to figure out what the goal is. How do you expect me to find him? How dangerous is this? Why me? Those are all valid questions. Just because we ask questions doesn’t mean we’re disobedient. In fact, the way I see it, if you don’t ask questions and you just do whatever anyone tells you, you’re not really a person anymore. You’re not thinking for yourself. You’re a puppet. Maybe something should be taken out of this essay, and that’s to ask a couple questions every now and then.

homework assignment 9/5/18

My first day at John Carroll hasn't been a good one. I really miss the chaos of public school. School isn't really my thing, so truth be told I liked how I didn't have to pay attention, I could skip class, and not do homework and no one would care. Being at a ghetto public school is what I'm used to, and where I feel like I belong. It seems like everyone at this school is rich, whereas I can barely afford being here with a scholarship and I still had to get help from distant relatives. The hallways smell like money and the principal looks like Colonel Sanders, that's not exactly a bad thing because Colonel Sanders is very respected and successful. Everything about me is different from the people here. My dialect, the way I grew up, the sports I play and my interests. In public school, no one payed attention to those things because no one wanted to be there. We were all in that school for the same reason, to learn what we need to and graduate so we would never have to think about it again. This is a school where focusing and learning is important since we payed to be here. I don't seem to fit in with anyone in my classes either. Everything about this school stresses me out a lot. I don't like it here.
