-RNI is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate

-net immigration rate is the difference between a number of persons entering and leaving a country during a certain year

-entering a country is immigration and leaving a country is emigration

Why do people migrate?

-push and pull forces

-a push force is a reason to leave a country

-for example: civil war, environmental degradation, religious persecution

-a pull force is a reason to enter a country

-for example: better health care, religious and political freedom, better economic opportunities

-TFR: total fertility rate (average number of children born per woman)

-if the TFR is higher than 2.1, the population will increase

-if the TFR is lower than 2.1, the population will decrease

-for the population to remain the same, the TFR has to be 2.1
