12/5/18

today in class we had to read a packet and underline important things. at the beginning of class we talked about exams and that next Friday we're going to have two essays due. we get to pick which of four we want to do. I cant remember exactly what happened in between because there was a lot of talking and chaos. at the beginning beginning, very beginning I remember you said the interviewer guy at the debate didn't like that sean said let us be sad in it. I didn't make it past the first page in the packet because I kept getting distracted.

late debate blog

I'm pretty sure its too late to do this for a grade but I'm being forced to. during Friday's debate, I didn't really learn much. no one called on me and I had a lot to say. I wouldn't put myself as one side or the other, but I wouldn't be neutral either because my opinions are so strong. I agree and disagree with certain aspects of both the democratic and republican side of the asylum argument. I don't know what to do with the immigration problem. on one hand, the immigration process takes so long and some people are scared for their life. on the other hand, there's only so much we can do as a nation. but I do believe very strongly that this is being handled wrong from both sides. for instance, the teenager who was shot 10 times for throwing a rock? yeah okay, so he shouldn't have thrown a rock. big deal. but the officer shot him. that's unnessacary. but then you think, he shot him 10 times, that's beyond excessive and cruel and I think the cop should be in prison. and the big group of people who stormed the border to try to get through, that's absolutely ridiculous. people could've died by getting trampled. the officers used tear gas and I think that was a good way of handling it. they didn't fatally injure them, they just made them uncomfortable so theyd leave. I cant say my life is great, but I sure as hell cant say that I know how hard it is to go through what those people do. they want to come into a new country for a better, safer life, but it takes them years. I cant even begin to understand their struggles. but you also have to think about all the people in power over America. they want whats best for the country. theyre trying their best to think of solutions to satisfy everyone, but its very hard. with who did well in the discussion, I think colin did well because we did a good job at not being biased and rude and instead he was open to others's thoughts and opinions.

12/4/18 -- migration article

  • migration: a permenant move from one place to another
  • migration is a form of mobility
  • mobility is a very broad and general term
  • emigration is moving FROM a location
  • immigration is moving TO a location
  • net migration is the difference between the number of immigrants and emigrants
  • largest migration flows are: latin America to north America, south asia to Europe south asia to southwest asia

ive been listening to weezer all class and I'm living my best life. I have very similar notes on this topic (this being the article, not weezer) so i'll put those in too because its the same information.

some key ideas of this unit is
  1. where are immigrants distributed?
  2. where do people migrate within a country?
  3. why do people migrate?
  4. why do migrants face obstacles?
I can somewhat answer these questions already, but not much in depth.
